Tequila, is one of the “Magic Tows” of Mexico

This is one of the “Magic Tows” of Mexico, and during the one hour drive to the city of Tequila from Guadalajara, you can enjoy the unique landscape with bluish-green patches of agave plants, used as a base ingredient of tequila, the renowned Mexican drink. This tradition started in 1600, when don Pedro Sánchez de Tagle, the Marquis of Altamira, set up the first tequila distillery, introducing the planting and brewing of Mezcal for production.

There are some interesting buildings like the parish temple built in the 18th Century and the Temple of La Purisima Concepción. But the main attraction is seeing the many distilleries that are open to visitors. There are several museums in the most important distilleries and the traditional haciendas of the region. The beautiful surroundings are ideal for some ecotourism activities.
